Camilla Skovgaard London Lace-up Oxford Ankle Boot
Written by Sally on July 20, 2010 under Fashion News
I am intrigued by the Camilla Skovgaard London A9007 ankle boot with the wrap-around ankle detail.
At first glance, they reminded me of the Balenciaga 2006 harness boots that were so popular (thanks in large part to Mary Kate Olson) – which spawned the wildly popular Sam Edelman ‘Zoe’ – a silhouette that has become a staple for that shoe brand, including a recent, studded variation.
Below: Balenciaga at left; Sam Edelman with and without harness + studded style at right.

But, maybe it’s just me? The similarities are very superficial once you get down into the details. I think it’s that ankle-wrap that conjured images of the harness from Balenciaga. After all, when you look at them next to each other, the similarities are negligible. Although they both share the basic quality of having attitude to spare.
So, the details on the Skovgaard: No chunky platform (zero sole), a lace-up textural detail, and a feminine-yet-stable heel coyly hidden underneath the faux-wedge illusion of the covering ankle-wrap.
No, they’re not very similar after all. And I think I’d be much more likely to find myself reaching for the Skovgaard’s, were either of these actually in my real-world closet.

Happy Birthday Carlos Santana
Written by Sally on July 20, 2010 under Fashion News
Carlos Santana turns 63 today. Santana was born July 20, 1947, in Autlán de Navarro, Mexico. Carlos learned to play the violin at age five and the guitar at age eight. He eventually settled in San Francisco where he began his career as a guitarist, starting the band Santana. When I think of Carlos Santana, I think of Oye Como Va. Love that song.
In 1998 by Carlos and Deborah Santana, made a deal with the Brown Shoe Company to design shoes that reflect the same passion, artistry, and energy generated by Carlos Santana’s music. I have included a photo of Carlos with Deborah even though they divorced in 2007, because Deborah was integral in structuring the business. A portion from the sales of Carlos by Carlos Santana shoes are donated to the Milagro Foundation. Although Carlos does not design the footwear himself, he and Deborah are a large part of the design process.
R5daughter has several friends who love their Santana shoes. They seem to have a good reputation. Let’s see what is offered. First, getting ready for fall.
Next, Tango $110 at carlosshoes.com There is a gold tone version that is gorgeous.
To celebrate I am going to have a Margarita tonight.

Lingerie Guide To Backless Bras
Written by Sally on July 19, 2010 under Fashion News
Backless bras are a cleverly designed bra style. There are so many women that are in need of this specialty brassiere from time to time. Although they are not the most comfortable types of bras there are quite a few styles that are supportive and afford a great fit.
From cool strapless summer tops to elegant bridal gowns, backless bras are astonishingly practical. Contrary to what some may suggest, it is not proper to wear a backless dress without a brassiere. A few women can pull this off but it is a rare occasion and is really playing with fire, particularly in social situations where going bra less may give the wrong message.
What Keeps These Bras Up?
What makes this brassiere so popular? To help the bra rest in its proper place it has a good sticky section on the inner part of the bra. A couple of styles have the adhesive on the interior of the bra cups or bra straps. Some bras are available without the heavy adhesive and tend to be the most comfortable because you do not have to deal with sticking, pinching, etc.
The crucial point to getting a good fit for these types of bras is getting the right cup size. They are meant to have a reasonably snug bra fit. As a rule, comfort is essential to feeling great in any lingerie or intimate apparel! And, consider that without the right lingerie undergarments the full look of the outfit will miss its mark.
One desirable benefit of backless bras is that there are designs that have a fabulous push up element and provide fantastic cleavage for any woman with any size of breasts. The amount of cleavage a woman will experience will depend on the positioning of the bra. An information booklet with techniques on how to boost cleavage is typically included with the brassiere.
Online Shopping Or Shopping In Person
There are a number of locations to shop online and in person for these brassieres. When lingerie shopping on one’s own, stores like Macy’s, Victoria’s Secret, JCPenney and Nordstrom are good picks. And, if you are shopping online there are well-known lingerie stores like FreshPair, HerRoom, and Pampered Passions.
Keep in mind when purchasing for bras online that different brands fit differently. Nevertheless, if this is your first time choosing backless bras it is a good notion to do your shopping in person to get the ideal style and finally the best bra fit.
Strapless backless bras are a wonderful convenience for a great many special circumstances when women do not want their bra straps to be visible. Bear in mind that it all comes down to being comfortable and looking awesome. Comfort creates confidence and for any special occasion it is vital that a woman radiates this confidence!
